Shorshe Ilish
Padma hilsa steamed in sharp mustard and green chilli. The dish every Bengali kitchen is judged on.
Kettering · Bengali Kitchen
Charcoal, mustard oil and patience — on the same corner since 1991.
Our Story
We opened in 1991, and in the thirty-odd years since, a good part of Kettering has sat at these tables — first dates and fortieths, quiet Tuesdays, and the loud nights that follow a wedding. We have never thought of that as a customer base. We think of it as The Raj family.
The kitchen works the way a Bengali home kitchen works, only slower and with better ingredients. Spices are ground in-house each morning. The tandoor runs on burning charcoal, not gas. And a growing part of the menu comes from the remoter corners of Greater Bangladesh — dishes you will not find anywhere else in the county.
